I realized although Pinky takes loads of pictures, she doesn’t take nice pictures.
A couple of Fridays ago, I was scheduled for a late Friday night conference call. So Mrs Chia suggest that the lot of us go out for a late dinner after that.
We initially wanted to try the ramen at Mandarin Gallery [read next post] but when we arrived at 10pm, they had already stopped accepting guests because the kitchen had ran out of ramen (aka mee kia). Of course, I got some trashing from Mr. Chia as usual because I was the one, with the help of my naggy boss, delayed everyone from leaving office promptly for a late dinner. It was such an irony.
Anyway, Mr. Chia decided to bring us to another restaurant instead. This time, we were smarter. It was already 10.15pm so we called the restaurant to check if their kitchen is still open. It was and they were willing to keep their kitchen open slightly longer to serve us.
So we found our way down to Le Bon Marche located at 383 Bukit Timah Road. As we walked towards the restaurant, we saw there were a ‘party’ going on and a middle age lady was celebrating her birthday. Immediately, Mrs Chia reminded me that mine is approaching soon, which is quite sad.
I am a novice when it comes to French dining but surprise, the uncle-ish Mr Chia was able to rattle on the more popular French dishes in FRENCH!
I wouldn’t know if he was speaking the right thing but since Mrs Chia was constantly agreeing with him, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
The owner himself handed us the menu and made some recommendations which I couldn’t understand at all. In the end we decided to go with the 2 specials or the day, one was duck drumstick and the other was french-styled kong-ba.
Pinky and I ordered soup as appetizer. I have to say that’s the smoothest mushroom soup I have ever tasted in my life, so smooth that I can’t feel it going down my throat. After drinking this soup, I swear I will never drink Campbell again!
Mr Chia ordered foi-gras as appetizer. The goose liver was so well done, fried on the outside, soft like butter on the inside. I kapo-ed a few mouth from Mr Chia and I fell sooo in love with it. I wanted to order one just for myself but the lady boss told me the kitchen was already closed!
Next came the main dish, I shared the duck drumstick with Pinky. Don’t ask me what its called in French, I do not know but Mr. Chia does. Pinky does not usually eat a lot, which is a good thing. I enjoyed the duck drumstick so much that I refused to let Mr Chia eat too much. I literally stopped him from eating my drumstick since he claimed his French-styled kong-ba is nicer than my drumstick!
Although my Friday ended late, I must say it ended well. We should really be exploring more of Singapore, outside the mainstream eating areas like Orchard. In fact, Pinky has already agreed with Mrs Chia that we would go back to this restaurant next Friday after work. I will not be driving so that I can enjoy the French red wine that the restaurant carries.
Total damage for the night? More than SGD 65 each but its money well spent =)
